I’m an adult – get me out of here!

The weather continues to depress the entire Nation. It really has been an awful summer. Yesterday evening the sun came out for about an hour and we went to walk the pier. It was packed! Funny thing was that it was still really cold and the wind was strong but just because the sun was out and it wasn’t raining probably meant it was the best day of the summer so far!

On Sunday morning the family went to Mass in Dun Laoire. My Mothers anniversary was Friday so we made the effort for Mass on Sunday. I couldn’t believe what greeted me at the Church. There were so few people and the average age must have been 60! No young people, no families – a really depressing sight and just further confirmation that the Catholic Church is in quick decline in Ireland!

I also didn’t hear anything that would interest me! Speaking to Nang about the whole situation she still wants to go to Mass when she gets here. She wants to visit the little box that the people in the movies are always going into! The confession box!! Ah, bless

Life in Ireland has NOT got any better at all. In fact, it has become more depressing. I am getting towards the stage where I am seriously considering my alternatives. I know I said I would give Ireland a year and I still want to do that but the more I stay here the more I feel like I am missing something! Maybe it will be better when Nang gets here – time will tell!

News in Thailand is good. The new constitution has been accepted by a small majority and it looks like there will be elections by the end of the year. The military will still be heavily involved in politics but at least it means that they can move on and not get stuck in limbo. There was a fairly hefty “no” vote and this could mean that the elections will be closely fought. However, because TRT have been disbanded and most of their members have been banned from politics it is difficult to see who will replace TRT and garnish the support of the people in the North East!?!

The economy seems to be holding strong – despite all the trials and tribulations.

However, on a global basis things are looking pretty shaky at the moment. The stock markets have been taking a big hit recently and I think they will continue to feel the pressure over the coming months. THere was an interesting IPO on the Nasdaq last week for VMWARE – that is definitely one to watch!

Economy in Ireland is still going OK but I think people will start to reign in on their spending due to high inflation and the increase in interest rates. There are tough times ahead!

Thaksin is doing well at Manchester City – they are now top of the league after beating United at the weekend. United put on a terrible show and didn’t really look like scoring at all. Unless the get a few good results soon I think we will see some more questions asked of Alex Ferguson. But it is still early days so I think we should wait a while.

Man United have had a terrible start to the season. I know they have some injuries to deal with but having to play John O’Shea as a striker seems to be ridiculous considering the number of strikers he had last season! The pressure will definitely be on Ferguson over the next few weeks to see if he can pull out of this slump. The only positive note is that the other challengers are drawing a lot of games and I think the overall competitiveness of the league will be much greater this season.

Rugby World cup is coming up soon enough and the recent injury to Brian O’Driscoll is not good news. You also have to ask questions about why they decided to play a game against the French so close to the real thing. There was bound to be a lot of provocation that the French would throw out but the punch was a really bad move!

Hopefully I can have a prototype of the new website in the next couple of weeks. Time is moving on now and I want to ensure that I get in there ahead of the competition. There are many others out there who probably see the opportunity but I think I have the advantage on the technology front!

I really cant wait till my holidays. It is the only thing that is keeping me going. Its sad really but every spare moment is spent planning what we will do when I make it to Thailand!

I am still going for my walks most evenings and it does help. I think I have lost weight but its hard to tell.

My social scene now revolves around the West Wing. I bought all the series on DVD in Thailand and I have really got into it. It is a great series and I am just starting series 2! Plenty more hours of entertainment for me ahead!

I am completely bored these days. I am not putting in any effort to setting back into life in Ireland and I have no motivation. It is as almost thatI have given up already and feel that I will never settle back here.

I think I will be able to make it through the next few months and the fact that Nang will be here will definitely help. Then early next year I will start making some serious decisions!
